The Frictionless Dutch Transit Revolution: OVpay

Visitors to the Netherlands no longer need to figure out complex ticket machines, buy disposable paper cards with €1 surcharges, or purchase an OV-chipkaart.

The Golden Rule: Tap In and Tap Out

  1. Tap In: Hold your contactless debit card, credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay against the card reader turnstile at the station or bus entrance until it bleeps and shows a green light.
  2. Tap Out: Hold the EXACT SAME CARD OR DEVICE against the reader when exiting. If you tap in with your physical card and tap out with Apple Pay, you will be charged two maximum penalty fares!
  3. Billing: All your daily journeys are bundled into a single overnight charge directly on your bank statement at official standard public transport rates.
