Plan the centre in layers
Start with Baščaršija, the Latin Bridge area and the east-to-west change in architecture. Add one museum rather than rushing every interior. Keep Trebević or the Tunnel of Hope as a separate half-day because neither belongs to the same compact walking loop.
Arrive by the correct route
The current Sarajevo Airport Bentbaša bus lists a BAM 5 fare. Weekday, weekend and daily departures differ, so read the current timetable instead of remembering one frequency.
For Belgrade coaches, Istočno Sarajevo is not the central Sarajevo bus station. Map the transfer before buying the intercity ticket. For Mostar trains, use the current ŽFBH information.
Use the budget as a worksheet
The figures below are chosen allowances. A private-room figure is for the whole room, while a dorm figure is for one bed. Add the airport, intercity travel, cable car and chosen museums separately.

Baščaršija, the central Ferhadija area and the lower parts of Bistrik or Kovači keep the main sights walkable. Check the actual slope, late-arrival route and street access before choosing a cheaper hillside room.
Getting Around
Walk the old centre, then use current tram, trolleybus or bus information for longer journeys. The airport bus, central bus station, railway station and Istočno Sarajevo bus station are separate parts of the transport plan.

Use displayed menus and order by the portion you want. Ćevapi, burek and other filled pastries can make a simple meal, but a busy old-town address is not automatically the best value.
Worth Paying For
Choose one well-explained history museum or guided visit and allow time to read. The Tunnel of Hope needs its own trip beyond the old centre.
Skip / Save Your Money
The central river walk, old-town lanes and Yellow Fortress viewpoint can fill much of a day without several paid entrances. The uphill walk still needs suitable shoes and daylight.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Do not accept an unmetered station or airport ride without agreeing the complete price. Decline unwanted guiding or souvenirs calmly, and use official exchange or cash-withdrawal channels.
