🛏️ Where to Stay

Stay in Bascarsija or the adjacent Kovaci or Bistrik neighborhoods. Everything in the central valley is walkable. Avoid staying too far up the hillside unless you enjoy steep walking.

🚇 Getting Around

Sarajevo historic center is completely pedestrian. Trams and trolleybuses operate along the east-west axis through the new town. A single tram ticket costs 1.80 BAM (0.92 Euros).

🥖 Eating for Less

Sarajevo is a paradise for budget dining. A portion of 10 cevapi with somun bread at Zeljo or Kastel costs 8 to 10 BAM (4 to 5 Euros). Burek sold by the weight at Sac in Bascarsija is exceptional value.

Worth Paying For

The Sarajevo Tunnel of Hope Museum (10 BAM / 5 Euros) on the edge of the airport gives irreplaceable insight into the 1992-1995 siege.

Skip & Save

Skip / Save Your Money

Skip the Trebevic cable car (30 BAM / 15 Euros return for foreigners) if on a strict budget; you can take local bus line 98 to the bobsleigh track for 1.80 BAM.

Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes

Beware of street money changers offering poor rates; use official banks or bank ATMs. Also avoid taking unmetered taxis outside the main railway station.
