Begin at the market, then walk the centre
Visit Placa before heading to Korzo. It is a working market, so buy what you need and leave room for people doing their daily shopping. The surrounding streets make a good place to look for lunch before a longer outing.
Follow the centre towards the old streets and waterfront, keeping the afternoon flexible. Molo Longo gives you a different view back towards the city when conditions and access suit a walk. Trsat without an unnecessary struggle
Bus 2 is an alternative to the long staircase from the centre. Alight in the Trsat area using the current route information, then follow signs towards the castle. Keep the onward journey simple
For Zagreb, coaches are generally the quicker option; rail needs a larger part of the day. Confirm the actual Rijeka departure point and leave time to find the platform. Do not base an early departure on a news article predicting when a new terminal will open.
An extra night gives you time for the coast without taking luggage on a hurried detour. Compare the return bus before turning that idea into a full-day outing, then keep the last evening near your room if you have an early departure.

Around Korzo, the market and the central waterfront, you can walk to meals and many sights. Trsat has a different feel but adds a hill or bus ride. If you have an early coach, choose the room using the current terminal address on your ticket, not an old map pin.
Getting Around
Walk around the centre and use Autotrolej buses for the hills. Bus 2 serves the Trsat area; check the current stop and direction. The staircase route is an alternative when you want the climb, not a flat shortcut.
Eating for Less
The city market, Placa, is a useful morning stop for produce and a look inside the fish market. Choose a nearby cooked lunch or buy ingredients if you have a kitchen. Ask for the daily marenda and its price before ordering extra sides.
Worth Paying For
Trsat Castle for the view and interpretation, or the Sugar Palace if the city’s industrial and social history interests you. Choose one as the main visit rather than squeezing both between buses.
Skip / Save Your Money
A taxi up and down every hill. A suitable city bus one way and a walk the other can work well if the steps and weather suit you.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Trsat Castle is not generally free for visiting tourists. Admission changes by season, and special events can have separate tickets. Also check the actual coach terminal on your booking while station development changes the area.
