Visit Narva for the castle, river views and the story of a city reshaped by war and industry. An overnight stay gives you more room for the museum and a booked Kreenholm visit than a long return trip from Tallinn.

Put the castle at the centre of the day
Start with the castle and a walk towards the river. Leave time inside to understand the city's history before looking at the fortifications across the water. The promenade and the museum work well together, but they do not need to be rushed into the hour before your train.
Narva Museum lists a €16 adult castle ticket and an €18 combination with its art gallery. The gallery is at a separate address. Pay for the combination only if you want both collections and can reach them while they are open.
Check the current opening notice
The museum's home page currently gives Wednesday to Saturday opening from 10:00 to 18:00 and Sunday from 10:00 to 16:00, with Monday and Tuesday closed. Ticket sales end an hour before closing. Use that current notice and any holiday exceptions when choosing your date.
If the castle is your main reason for visiting, arrange the trip around its opening rather than the cheapest train alone. Leave time for the walk back to the station and a meal before departure.
Book industrial heritage separately
Kreenholm is a different outing from a central museum visit. Check a listed guided visit for the date, language, meeting point and access arrangements. Do not assume that an industrial site is open for an independent wander because it appears in a tourism photograph.
For a second day, Narva-Jõesuu offers a coastal change of scene. Work out the local journey and return before leaving town. It is easier to enjoy that outing when you have another night than when you are trying to catch the last suitable train to Tallinn.
Make the train journey part of the plan
The Tallinn–Narva route covers the direct Elron service and station arrival. Compare the date's actual journey time and check engineering notices before booking. A standard-class ticket is not a reserved seat.
Keep your walks on open public paths on the Estonian side of the river. This guide plans a stay in Narva; travel across the international border needs its own arrangements. Choose a central hotel if an early train or late arrival would make a second local journey inconvenient.

Compare central accommodation near Peetri Square and the river with the walk from the railway station. Narva-Jõesuu is a separate coastal resort, not another name for the city centre.

Walk between the central sights and the river when conditions suit you. Allow for steps and slopes on the promenade; use a local connection for Narva-Jõesuu or a Kreenholm tour meeting point.
