Annecy’s old streets meet the lake within a short walk, so a town visit and time by the water fit naturally together. For cycling, the western shore offers a simpler outing than the full lake circuit. The castle museum is an option when you want a break from the waterfront.

Choose the shorter ride if you want a relaxed day
The west-shore greenway follows the lake from Annecy towards Sévrier, Saint-Jorioz and Duingt. For a casual ride, take an out-and-back section and stop where you want. Turn back wherever you have had enough cycling for the day.
The tourism office’s cycling information describes a roughly 42-kilometre full loop and the steeper east-shore section near Talloires. A shorter west-side ride is the more flexible choice when you want time for swimming, food or photographs. Follow current signs where routes meet roads.
Match transport to the season
The 2026 Mobil’été programme covered 1 July to 31 August. That period has ended. For autumn, use the ordinary Sibra timetable and ticket information rather than counting on free summer buses.
Our suggested two-part day is the old town in the morning and one lakeside outing after lunch. Leave a longer village excursion for another day so you do not spend the evening trying to retrieve a car or catch an infrequent last connection.

For a short car-free stay, the old town or the streets between the station and lake keep the main walks close. A lakeside village can be lovely for a longer stay, but settle its evening bus or parking arrangements before booking.
Getting Around
The west-shore greenway is a useful choice for an out-and-back cycle ride through Sévrier and Saint-Jorioz. Turn around when you want rather than committing to the full lake loop, which includes busier and steeper sections.
Eating for Less
Buy a bakery lunch and fruit before heading onto the lake path. Carry water and choose a picnic stop along your actual route; returning to the old town for every meal can use much of a short day.
Worth Paying For
Bike hire can be a good use of money for a west-shore outing. Ask the shop to fit the bike and explain the route, then agree a realistic return time with room for stops.
Skip / Save Your Money
The lakefront and old-town canals are enough for a full walking afternoon. A cruise is optional; choose it for time on the water rather than because you think it is needed to see the lake.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Annecy’s advertised free summer bus period ran from 1 July to 31 August 2026. A September visit needs the ordinary fare arrangements. Do not apply a summer promotion to the whole year.
