Lille has two central stations, an old town full of places to eat and the Palais des Beaux-Arts for a longer indoor visit. Wazemmes market adds a different part of the city. Even an overnight stop leaves room for more than the streets between your hotel and the train.

Plan from the station written on the ticket
Lille is useful for a rail break, but Lille-Europe and Lille-Flandres are different stations. For an early departure, select accommodation by the actual walking route to the correct one. Leave more time when travelling with luggage or children rather than treating a nearby map pin as the same building.
Our suggested short-stay walk begins around Grand Place, continues into Vieux Lille and leaves a longer meal break before a museum or the Citadel park. Keep the day compact if the next train is already booked.
Give the market its own morning
The tourism office lists Wazemmes market at Place de la Nouvelle Aventure. Use it as a food outing, then return towards the centre. Choose the morning that matches the market listing; nearby shops and the open-air stalls do not all follow one timetable.
For the ride, use ilévia’s ticket shop to price the journeys you need. A return trip to one neighbourhood and a day of repeated metro rides are different reasons to buy a pass.

Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille
€7.00Booking and rates: The ordinary permanent-collection adult ticket is €7, with a €4 reduced rate for eligible visitors. Closed Tuesdays; temporary exhibitions can have separate prices.
Ways to save: The first Sunday of the month is free. On other Sundays, the resident Pass Lille conditions apply; free admission is not automatic for every visitor.

Where to Stay
For a short train visit, look between Lille-Flandres, Grand Place and the edge of Vieux Lille. If your ticket uses Lille-Europe, plot that station specifically rather than assuming both stations share one entrance.
Getting Around
Use ilévia for journeys beyond the centre, and choose the ticket for the route you will make. Lille-Flandres, Grand Place and much of Vieux Lille can form a walking day without a day pass.
Eating for Less
Go to the Wazemmes market area around Place de la Nouvelle Aventure for a food-led outing. Buy a few items for one meal rather than carrying a full shopping bag through the museum later. The open-air market and covered-hall businesses can have different hours.
Worth Paying For
The Palais des Beaux-Arts is a substantial art stop near Place de la République. Choose it for painting and sculpture rather than squeezing it between shopping stops. Leave a proper block of time for the collection you want to see.
Skip / Save Your Money
The old-town streets and the park around the Citadel make a useful outdoor alternative to another admission. Leave a little time for that walk if the weather improves.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Lille-Europe and Lille-Flandres are separate stations. Allow time for the walk between them, especially with bags, and read the station name again before following a departure-board photo or a saved map pin.
