A market morning with a clear time and place
The Arceaux market runs on Tuesday and Saturday mornings from 7am to 1.30pm. Start there for bread, produce and a small lunch, then walk back towards the old-town streets. The aqueduct makes the location easy to identify.
For an afternoon indoors, Musée Fabre normally opens from 11am to 6pm, Tuesday to Sunday. Its permanent collection is free on the first Sunday of the month. A temporary exhibition has its own ticket conditions, so choose the actual visit before calculating a saving.
Free transport headlines do not apply to every visitor
The city’s transport guidance is explicit: passengers without the eligible resident pass need a valid paid ticket. Buy ordinary visitor transport for your tram or bus journey.
You can keep much of a central day on foot, then use transit for a longer outing. For the beach, look up the full journey and the final walk before leaving; a tram stop is not automatically a stop on the sand.

Visitors need paid TaM tickets. Montpellier’s free-transport scheme requires eligibility and a resident Pass gratuité; simply staying in a hotel does not make city travel free. Buy the ticket before starting a tram or bus trip.
Eating for Less
Visit the Arceaux market below the aqueduct on Tuesday or Saturday morning, when the published hours are 7am to 1.30pm. Buy lunch supplies there, then continue towards the old centre instead of making a separate food-shopping trip.
