Make the weekend transport benefit work for you
Nantes city transport is free for everyone at weekends, including the ordinary bus, tram and Navibus network. The airport shuttle is the exception. If you arrive on Friday, buy only the travel you need that day before the weekend begins.
A useful suggested day combines the centre with the Île de Nantes, leaving time for an outdoor art walk and one booked Machines visit. You do not need a visitor pass to unlock the ordinary weekend transport benefit.
Pick the Machines visit by what you want to do
The official 2026 booking page sells the elephant ride, gallery and carousel separately. Book the ride for the experience of being aboard; book the gallery for a closer look at the mechanical creations. Put lunch before or after the slot, with enough time to walk over from the centre.
If online slots are full, the operator says additional tickets are sold on site on the day. That gives you another option, but it is not a guaranteed place. Keep the river and the public-art walk as a worthwhile plan in their own right.

Choose the centre near Commerce for several tram directions and evening walks. Near the station suits a short visit and an early train; on the Île de Nantes, check the route back from dinner as well as the distance to the Machines.
Getting Around
Naolib city buses, trams and Navibus are free for everyone on Saturdays and Sundays. The airport shuttle is excluded. On a weekend, do not buy a city pass just to cover ordinary city transport.
Eating for Less
Put a bakery or market stop before the trip to the Machines, then carry a simple lunch if that fits your plan. Choose a seated meal in the centre afterwards rather than letting a timed attraction slot force a rushed lunch.
Worth Paying For
Book the Grand Éléphant ride if travelling on the machine is the main attraction. Choose the Galerie if you are more interested in the mechanical creatures and how they work. The official booking page lists both separately.
Skip / Save Your Money
Follow the public-art route through the city and use the free weekend transport for longer gaps. That leaves the budget for one Machines experience rather than a bundle you may not use.
