Choose between Balluta, Spinola and Paceville

Balluta and Spinola suit a stay built around the water, meals and short evening walks. Paceville puts you close to clubs and late bars. Choose the area for the evening you actually want: a room above nightlife can be convenient at midnight and frustrating when you want to sleep.

Around Spinola Bay, watch the boats and take a short waterfront walk before dinner. Continue towards Balluta for a second bay and a different view, or save it for the next morning. Neither outing needs an organised tour.

Give the coast an unhurried morning

Balluta’s beach is small, and much of the nearby shore is rock rather than sand. The official coastal profile distinguishes these bathing areas. Follow the signs at the site you choose, especially after rough weather.

If swimming is not appealing, keep the promenade walk and stop for a drink instead. For a longer walk, continue towards Sliema; ordinary route 13 provides a bus option for the return. The Sliema–St Julian’s guide names the stops and shows the seasonal fare.

Leave room in the budget for one evening meal

Look around Balluta or Spinola for a meal whose menu suits you, then compare a side-street option if the waterfront price is too high. A simple bakery breakfast and a lighter lunch can leave room for a longer dinner. You do not need to book an activity every evening to enjoy this part of Malta.

In Paceville, look at entry conditions and drink prices before accepting a promoter’s offer. Free entry can still lead to an expensive night once drinks and the ride home are included. Set a night-out amount separately from your ordinary food allowance if you plan to go clubbing.

Reach your room and the rest of Malta

Airport Direct TD2 serves St Julian’s and Pembroke, while TD3 also passes through St Julian’s on its Sliema route. Both cost €3 without a covering pass. Use the stop nearest your address, rather than choosing only by the town name on the bus.

For Valletta, take an ordinary bus or travel to Sliema for the harbour ferry. The ferry and the local bus are separate tickets. Read the bus-pass comparison before buying a weekly product, since airport coverage differs.
