Choosing your journey
Use the train for a shorter city-to-city move. A coach can suit a tighter budget, but compare its full journey from your chosen London stop.

Take the Euston departure
Avanti West Coast runs to Manchester Piccadilly. Plan around 2¼–2¾ hours according to the train, with extra time during engineering work. Euston is separate from King’s Cross and St Pancras.
Read the coach starting point
National Express advertises a fastest time from Golders Green. That is not the same journey as boarding at Victoria Coach Station. For a Victoria departure, a rough planning allowance of 5–6 hours is more useful; use the actual timetable before arranging your evening.
Arrive on the right side of the centre
Piccadilly and the Chorlton Street coach station are different stops, though both serve the centre. Manchester’s free city buses can help with a station-to-centre journey. Check their route before booking accommodation farther out: a free central loop does not make every suburban journey free.
Plan the arrival
The London guide and Manchester guide explain the local journeys, places to stay and visits. Add the main travel ticket separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above is a straight-line comparison between the city centres; your train, road or flight route can be longer.
