Choosing your journey
Atocha’s Avant train is the quick main journey, while a coach from Plaza Elíptica can suit a different starting point. Add the uphill approach into Toledo’s old town to either option.

Compare both Madrid starting points
The train takes around 30–40 minutes from Atocha to Toledo. Alsa coaches leave Plaza Elíptica on this route; allow about an hour for a direct service and longer for one with more stops. Your journey across Madrid may decide which is more convenient.
Buy the return you intend to take
Look at the total cost and restrictions of a return ticket instead of assuming a fixed discount applies to just one leg. Popular return trains can sell out. Choose a departure that leaves time for the cathedral’s visiting hours, lunch and the descent from the old centre.
Include the last part into town
Neither a short railway time nor a coach arrival removes Toledo’s hills. Use the city’s walking approaches and escalators or local transport as appropriate. Check the return route before starting your sightseeing, especially with luggage or limited walking energy.
Plan the arrival
The Madrid guide and Toledo guide explain the local journeys, places to stay and visits. Add the main travel ticket separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above is a straight-line comparison between the city centres; your train, road or flight route can be longer.
