Allow about 60–75 minutes depending on stops. Check the dated Vivi train; city transport and the onward journey to Turaida need their own coverage. Tickets and times |
Choose a train that suits the visit
Vivi services from Riga Central have different stopping patterns. Ordinary regional trains take roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter. Faster international services in the shared timetable can have different ticket arrangements. Use your actual date and check any notices before choosing a timed castle ticket.
Keep the town and Turaida separate
Sigulda station is a useful starting point for the town. Turaida Museum Reserve is about 5 km from the centre; check the local bus and return departure, or plan a marked walk with the valley climbs included. A 45-minute train does not make the whole excursion a 45-minute journey.
Buy the correct ticket
An ordinary Riga city ticket alone does not include this regional train. Compare the Vivi ticket with an eligible Riga Unified Ticket if you also need city transport. Keep the ticket ready for inspection and check baggage rules when taking a bicycle.
If using a coach
Read the exact arrival stop. Some coaches call by the A 2 highway rather than the central station area. A slightly different fare may be less useful if the stop adds a long walk with luggage.
Plan the arrival
Continue with the Sigulda & Gauja National Park guide when choosing a base and local visits. Add this journey separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above compares the city centres in a straight line; the route you travel can be longer.
