The journey
Choose a fast direct train for the move to Basel SBB. Allow about 55–70 minutes on a fast direct service for the main connection, plus the journeys at each end. This is a planning range; use the timetable for your travel date.
Departure: Zurich HB. Arrival: Basel SBB.
Do not mix Basel’s stations
Basel SBB and Basel Badischer Bahnhof are separate stations. Check the actual connection if you are continuing to Germany. A city tram between stations is not an automatic cross-platform change.
Make the airport connection explicit
For EuroAirport, continue from Basel SBB using the relevant airport bus. Include its fare or your valid BaselCard benefit and the airline’s airport arrival margin. The Zurich-to-Basel rail time alone is not the time needed to reach a flight.
Tickets and local travel
Use the operator information and SBB journey planner to choose the actual departure. Read the fare conditions: an ordinary ticket and a train-specific Supersaver ticket have different flexibility. Only select a discount if you hold the required card.
The Zurich guide and Basel guide explain the local arrival and accommodation choices.
