The Evolving Airport Security Rules

While next-generation CT (computed tomography) scanners allowing full-size liquids are rolling out across select European airports, the European Commission reinstated the 100ml container rule across all EU airports in late 2024 pending technical software alignment.

The Rule to Follow

Always pack your liquids under the legacy standard:

• All liquids, gels, pastes, aerosols, and creams must be in containers of 100ml (3.4 oz) or less.
• All containers must fit inside a single transparent, resealable plastic bag with a capacity of no more than 1 liter (roughly 20 x 20 cm).

The Solid Toiletry Hack

The simplest way to bypass liquid restrictions is switching to solid alternatives:

• Solid shampoo and conditioner bars (Ethique or Lush).
• Solid stick mineral sunscreen.
• Solid bar soap or concentrated laundry sheets.
• Toothpaste tablets.
