Escaping the 1st District Premium

Vienna’s Innere Stadt (1st District), encircled by the Ringstraße, commands some of the highest hotel rates in Europe. However, Vienna’s immaculate U-Bahn and tram network makes staying just outside the inner ring practical, quiet, and 40% cheaper.

1. Neubau (7th District): The Creative Heart

Located directly behind the MuseumQuartier, Neubau is Vienna's premier creative district, packed with independent designers, vintage bookshops, and third-wave cafes.

  • Transit: U-Bahn U3 connects Volkstheater and Neubaugasse to St. Stephen’s Cathedral in 5 minutes.

2. Mariahilf (6th District): Shopping and Local Dining

Stretching along the Mariahilfer Straße shopping avenue down to the famous Naschmarkt.

  • Transit: U-Bahn Line U4 runs directly along the district border to Schönbrunn Palace and the city center.

3. Leopoldstadt (2nd District): Green Parks and Danube Canals

Just across the Danube Canal, the former Jewish quarter is now home to the Augarten baroque gardens, the Prater amusement park, and hip bakeries around Karmelitermarkt.
