Build the visit around an open interior
Leuven’s town hall cannot be visited inside through 2029. The University Library gives you an alternative with a tower and an exhibition about the university’s history. Put that visit on the plan before choosing where to have lunch.
For a longer stay, the ILUVLeuven ticket joins a guided walk, the library and tower, and either M Leuven or Park Abbey. Select the walk’s date and language first. The other visits can take place on the walk day or within the following three days, which is more useful than trying to squeeze all three into an afternoon.
A Friday morning with lunch sorted
The Friday market normally fills Ladeuzeplein and Hooverplein from 7am to 1pm, selling food, flowers and other goods. During the Leuven Fair, the 11 and 18 September 2026 markets use Bondgenotenlaan, Rector De Somerplein, Margarethaplein and the outer edge of Ladeuzeplein.
On a market day, arrive in the morning, buy food while the stalls are open, and leave the indoor visit for later. On another day, the library and a walk through the centre still make a complete visit; there is no need to add a paid tour simply to fill the gap.

Look between the railway station and the centre for a stay that keeps arrival and evenings simple. If you choose a room near the Oude Markt, ask about night-time noise and which side of the building the room faces.
Getting Around
The station and central sights can be joined as a walking visit if that suits your mobility and luggage. Leuven is also a rail day-trip choice from Brussels; buy the SNCB journey separately from your Brussels city transport.
Eating for Less
Friday’s main market runs 7am to 1pm around Ladeuzeplein and Hooverplein. On 11 and 18 September 2026, the fair moves stalls to nearby streets and the edge of Ladeuzeplein. Pick up lunch before visiting the library rather than returning after the market closes.
