Plan around the hills
Drop your bag before exploring. A map can make the old streets, fortress and river viewpoints look like a short circuit, but the changes in level add effort. Take one section at a time and check the route back to your accommodation before walking downhill late in the day.
Two nights give you a full day for Tsarevets and room for the craft quarter or Gurko Street. A one-night stop can work, but only if the travel times leave enough daylight for the visit you most want.
Give Tsarevets time
The museum's ticket page lists €7.67 standard adult admission. The fortress is an outdoor hillside visit with uneven surfaces. Carry water in warm weather and allow time to come down as well as climb.
The last admission is an hour before closing. Seasonal hours vary, so check them before choosing a late afternoon arrival. A family ticket has its own age and party conditions; ask about the right product rather than buying several adult tickets automatically.
Keep the rest of the day light
After the fortress, leave time for a meal and a shorter walk through the old streets. Samovodska Charshiya suits browsing at your own pace. If you want a particular workshop or museum, check its opening time before walking there.
For poor weather, choose one indoor museum and keep the longer viewpoints for a clearer spell. An evening light show needs a published event, so do not make it the only reason for an overnight stay.
Arrive at the correct station
Biomet lists its town ticket office at South Bus Station, Hristo Botev 74. Check the station on your own booking, then arrange the final climb to your room. A late arrival with a suitcase is a good reason to budget a taxi.
From Sofia, compare the dated coaches rather than assuming an hourly service. For a train itinerary, distinguish Veliko Tarnovo station from Gorna Oryahovitsa and account for any connection. A train that serves the wider region may not finish near the Old Town.
Fit the town into a wider trip

Choose a meal from the full menu and the time you have. A view is pleasant, but it is not proof of good value; compare portion sizes and leave a simple breakfast near your room.
