Šibenik has enough stairs, small lanes and fortress views to fill a day without rushing away to Krka. Stay a second night if you want the park: it gives the old town its own time and makes the onward coastal journey less hurried.

Keep the first day in Šibenik
Walk from the waterfront into the cathedral square before exploring the narrower streets uphill. St James Cathedral is an active church as well as a visitor attraction, so check the sightseeing hours and dress for entering a place of worship.
For a fortress visit, compare the current tickets and what each site offers. St Michael's is closest to the old-town walk. Barone and St John's need more climbing and time. St Nicholas is a different outing by the channel; do not assume one city ticket or one walking route includes all four. Fortress visitor information, Šibenik tourism.
Come back down for lunch, then decide whether another climb still sounds enjoyable. The waterfront is a perfectly good place to spend a slower afternoon. On a hot day, plan the uphill section earlier and leave indoor visits for later.
Choose the Krka entrance before the transport
Skradin and Lozovac are different ways into the Skradinski buk area of Krka National Park. From Skradin, the park boat operates seasonally; a walking and cycling route of about 3.4 km is another approach. That distance comes before your walk around the waterfalls, so count it in the day.
Park transport included in an entrance ticket is not the same as an extra boat excursion to another site. Check the operating programme and book only what you will have time to use. Skradin entrance, Krka visitor information.
Eat before a long afternoon out
Buy water and a simple lunch near the city market if you are heading to the park. If you prefer a cooked meal, eat in town before departure or check the restaurant opening hours at your chosen entrance. Leave a clear return-bus plan rather than relying on finding one after the last park boat.
For the next coastal stop, compare the direct coach from Split with your actual accommodation location. Split's main bus station is beside the ferry port, which can help if your trip continues to an island the following day.

The waterfront and lower old town make arrivals easier with bags. A room higher in the centre may be quiet but can involve long flights of steps. Ask for the route from the bus station and confirm how close a taxi can actually get.
Getting Around
Walk between the cathedral, waterfront and old-town lanes. The upper fortresses involve climbing; they are not all beside the cathedral. For Krka, first choose Skradin or Lozovac as your entrance, then match the bus, transfer or parking plan.
Eating for Less
The city market near the bus station is a practical place for fruit and picnic supplies before an outing. Look for a marenda, a cooked daytime meal, and ask which dishes are available today. A seafood platter priced for two can still cost more than two ordinary main courses.
Worth Paying For
St James Cathedral for the interior, or one of the city fortresses for the view and exhibitions. Choose around your interests and the amount of uphill walking you want.

Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
