Bordeaux’s riverfront links long walks with two very different paid visits: wine at the Cité du Vin and projected art at the Bassins des Lumières. The Marché des Capucins brings the focus back to food. Pick the visit that interests you, then leave time for the centre.

A market morning and a river afternoon
Start at Les Capucins for food, then continue towards the central streets and the Garonne. Buy lunch in amounts you can comfortably carry and eat that day. This suggested route gives the market a purpose without requiring a paid food tour.
Keep the afternoon on the river or use it for one indoor visit. If you want to visit a wine estate, book that on a separate day with the return journey settled in advance. The city’s wine story and an estate visit can complement each other, but neither needs to fill every day.
Choose transport for the places on your list
TBM’s visitor page explains city day tickets and the separate Bordeaux CityPass. A transport ticket buys movement; a visitor pass adds attractions under its own conditions. List the museums you want before deciding whether those extras are useful.
For a station transfer followed by a walking day, start by pricing the individual journeys. For repeated trips between the station, the centre and the northern waterfront, the day product may be more convenient.
Choose wine history or projected art
The Cité du Vin, at 134 Quai de Bacalan, lists €23 adult admission for the permanent exhibition and Belvedere tasting. Bassins des Lumières is a different outing: projected art in the former submarine base, with a €16 adult ticket. Choose the subject you want rather than treating the two as interchangeable waterfront stops.

For a walkable first stay, look between the central streets and the quays. Near Saint-Jean station suits a late arrival or early departure; choose near a tram stop if your main plans are farther north along the river.
Getting Around
TBM tickets cover the city network, while a vineyard train or regional coach needs its own coverage. Use the TBM visitor ticket page to choose a 24-hour product only when several city rides are on the plan.

Bordeaux-Merignac Airport (BOD)

€1.90Tram F links the airport with Hôtel de Ville in about 35 minutes and Saint-Jean station in about 45 minutes. A single ticket costs €1.90. Trams normally run every 10 minutes Monday to Saturday and every 15 minutes on Sundays. Buy and validate a TBM ticket, and check any works for your travel date.

€9.00 - €10.00Direct coach to Bordeaux Saint-Jean, usually about 30 minutes in normal traffic. The standard adult single is €9 online or €10 on board; the online adult return is €16.20. The €8 online ticket is a reduced fare, so select the right passenger category. Check the timetable before relying on a late departure.

Les Capucins is a practical market for takeaway food or a meal on site. Choose bread, cheese or another filling and fruit for a simple lunch, then walk towards the centre. A market visit does not have to become a tasting tour to be enjoyable.
Worth Paying For
The Cité du Vin’s €23 adult ticket includes the permanent exhibition and a Belvedere tasting. Choose it for the history and culture of wine as well as the view. A separate workshop or food purchase is an extra, so start with the standard visit.
Skip / Save Your Money
The quays and central streets provide a long outdoor route without an admission ticket. Use that for part of the day instead of buying several wine attractions with similar themes.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
A wine tasting and a vineyard transfer are different parts of the cost. Before reserving a visit outside Bordeaux, establish how you will get back after the tasting. Do not rely on finding a taxi at a rural property.
