Dresden Travel Guide
Dresden's Royal Palace collections can fill much of a day, especially if you book the Historic Green Vault. Across the Elbe, Neustadt offers a different set of streets and places to eat. Leave time for both sides instead of treating the city as one long museum visit.

Book the Historic Green Vault by name
The SKD ticket shop sells timed admission to the Historic Green Vault for €18 per adult. The combined option with the Royal Palace is €28. The two choices are useful for different days: the first is focused, while the second needs time for the additional collections.
The Historic and New Green Vaults are not interchangeable. Choose the Historic ticket and its entry time explicitly. Tuesday is the normal closing day, so put the old-city museum visit on another day of the stay.
Cross the river for a different food stop
Neustädter Markthalle, at Metzer Straße 1, has a bakery, supermarket and several food businesses. The hall opens Monday to Saturday, 8am to 8pm, but that does not mean every counter serves food until closing.
Use it for a practical lunch or shopping stop when you are already on the Neustadt side. Afterwards, leave time beside the Elbe. You can enjoy the view back towards the old city without adding a river cruise to an already full museum day.
Where to Stay
Altstadt suits a first stay built around the main collections. Neustadt offers another setting for food and evenings. Dresden Hauptbahnhof and Dresden-Neustadt are different stations; choose the one that works with your room and train.
Getting Around
Use the old centre as a walking area and local transport for the journey to your accommodation or farther stops. Save the bridge crossing and river walk for a time when you are not carrying luggage between stations.
Eating for Less
Neustädter Markthalle at Metzer Straße 1 has a supermarket, bakery and food counters. The hall normally opens Monday to Saturday, but individual traders keep different hours. It is a practical stop when you want ingredients or a small meal on the Neustadt side.
Worth Paying For
The Historic Green Vault adult ticket is €18, while the listed combination with the Royal Palace is €28. Choose the combination if you also want those collections and have time for them. The Historic rooms are normally closed on Tuesdays.
Skip / Save Your Money
The riverbanks give you the old-city skyline without an admission fee. Keep a walk there after the museum, especially when you would rather spend more time outside than add another collection.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
The Historic Green Vault and New Green Vault are different visits. The Historic rooms require a timed ticket; a Royal Palace ticket alone should not be assumed to include that booking. Select the Historic option explicitly if it is what you came for.
