Use the old town as a place to spend time
Leave space to wander the lanes rather than following a list of paid entrances from morning to evening. The surfaces can be uneven, so a short distance may take longer with a pushchair or suitcase. Ask your accommodation which gate and drop-off point are easiest.
The Palace of the Grand Master has a €20 ordinary adult ticket. Walking the town streets is a different activity from visiting the palace or a managed section of the walls. Read the ticket name and opening hours before adding another paid visit.
Choose between a town base and a resort base
A town room makes evening meals and sightseeing easier on foot. A resort elsewhere on the island may be better for beach days, but adds travel whenever you want to return to Rhodes Town. Compare that journey with the room saving using your actual number of outings.
Check shade, air conditioning and noise in recent room reviews. For an early ferry, confirm that you can reach the correct terminal before boarding closes; the nearest bus stop is only useful if a service runs early enough.
Follow the airport's own bus directions
Rhodes Airport identifies the public bus connection to the city and places its stop between the old and new terminals. RODA runs this service. Check the current departure and fare at the stop or operator before boarding, especially after a late flight.
For an east-coast visit such as Lindos, use the relevant intercity KTEL service. It is a separate outing from the airport route. Find the return departure before spending the afternoon at a beach or archaeological site; a missed last bus can change the day's cost considerably.
Keep ferry arrivals distinct
The Fethiye–Rhodes service uses the Touristiko international port area. Leave time for document checks and use the terminal stated by your carrier. Check entry requirements for your passport before booking a cross-border trip, including permission to return if it is a day visit.
An Athens–Rhodes ferry is a much longer crossing. Compare the seat or cabin you actually want with a flight and both airport transfers. A low deck fare and a private cabin are not the same overnight plan.

Palace of the Grand Master

Ways to save: The surrounding old-town streets can be explored without a palace ticket. Interior access and the walls are separate.

Skip a rushed circuit of the entire island during a short town stay. Choose one outing that works with the return bus instead of adding several remote stops.
Common Tourist Traps & Money Mistakes
Confirm which Rhodes port area your ferry uses. Boats from Türkiye involve an international arrival, and Mandraki is not a general substitute for the Touristiko terminal.
