Lecce is a good place for a slower stay built around stone façades, church interiors and evening walks. Use the centre as one compact day, then choose a separate Salento outing with a workable return. Coastal trains and buses need more planning than the map suggests.

Look at the façades, then choose the interiors
Start around Piazza del Duomo and walk towards Santa Croce through the centre. You can enjoy the public streets without a church pass, but interior visits have their own ticket and worship arrangements.
The LeccEcclesiae circuit costs €11 for a standard adult ticket and includes the cathedral, Santa Croce, Santa Chiara, San Matteo, the old seminary and sacred-art museum. The €21 option adds the bell tower. The circuit's stated validity is 15 days, so a longer stay does not require rushing every church into one afternoon.
Special evening visits are separate products. Read the inclusions rather than assuming that an ordinary circuit ticket covers every experience advertised on the site.
Leave time for a normal meal
A pasticciotto and a coffee can be a pleasant break, but it need not become a hunt for one famous café. Look at the menu, choose something you want and take a seat if the price and setting suit you. Our Puglia food guide gives context for a few regional choices.
Check the full coastal outing
For a day beyond Lecce, search the current Trenitalia and FSE services, including replacement buses and holiday timetables. A connection to a town station does not necessarily reach the beach you have in mind. Add the last walk or bus and confirm the return before leaving.

Where to Stay
Inside the historic centre, choose a street that suits your evenings and ask about noise. Near Porta San Biagio or the railway station, compare the walk with luggage and access for a late arrival.
Getting Around
Walk around central Lecce. For Otranto, Gallipoli or beaches, check the date-specific FSE train or bus journey and any changes. Do not assume every coastal trip takes less than an hour.
Eating for Less
Try a pasticciotto or an iced coffee with almond syrup if you like something sweet. Ask about ingredients and the price before ordering; a pastry stop can be separate from a larger lunch.
Worth Paying For
The church circuit if you will enter several of its buildings. Its ordinary ticket covers more than Santa Croce, so choose the sites you want and allow time between them.
Skip / Save Your Money
A transport-heavy beach day when you mainly want to enjoy Lecce. Spend another evening in the centre and choose a coast stay separately if swimming is the main purpose.
