Start with one part of the centre
The streets around the cathedral, Quattro Canti and the old markets can fill a day without a long checklist. Choose one market walk and a paid interior, then leave time for a meal. The Kalsa gives you another area to explore on a longer stay, rather than a brief detour between bookings.

Check the palace's open rooms
The Royal Palace visitor page lists €19 adult admission for the fuller route including the Royal Apartments on its usual opening days. The Tuesday and Wednesday €15.50 product excludes those apartments. Restoration, worship and parliamentary use can also affect the visit.
Choose the actual date before comparing tickets. A cheaper product is not necessarily the same experience at a discount, and a chapel service can change when visitors may enter.
Keep an airport arrival straightforward
The airport train serves more than one station in Palermo. Compare the station nearest your accommodation with the final walk and reception hours. If using a coach instead, confirm its stop and the walk from there; the lowest fare does not always make the easiest late arrival.
Give Sicily enough travel time
Palermo and Catania are different bases on opposite sides of the island. Compare the current coach and rail journeys before booking a hotel change, as works can affect railway travel. The Kalsa, old market areas and Politeama make different bases. Check the exact street, room noise and walking route to transport. No district name guarantees a quiet room or a particular level of safety.
Getting Around
Walk within the historic centre and use local transport for longer gaps. The airport railway serves several Palermo stations, so choose the one nearest your room and check the journey time for that train.
Eating for Less
Try panelle, arancine or a freshly filled cannolo if they appeal to you. Look for clear prices and food handled well. A crowd or grill smoke alone does not tell you whether a stall is a good choice.
