Verona makes a good two-day stop for the Arena, river walks and a slower look at the old centre. An opera evening is a different experience from a daytime monument visit. Leave enough time for the performance and the journey back to your room.

Separate the Arena visit from the opera
A daytime Arena ticket is sold through the civic-museum system. An opera ticket is sold for a particular performance, seating area and entry gate. Read the Arena programme before booking a room for a show; late finishes can change your return plans.
For a daytime visit, check the civic museum's access information. Events and preparations can affect the visitor route. Keep another central walk available if the hours do not fit.
Know the new Juliet entrance
The city's current arrangements put access to the courtyard and house through Teatro Nuovo in Piazzetta Navona. The theatre-and-courtyard option is €5; the full route is a different ticket. An older tip promising free entry from Via Cappello will send you to the wrong plan.
Choose the house if its story and interiors appeal to you. Otherwise, the river and squares give you plenty to enjoy without collecting every admission.
Give the river some time
Piazza delle Erbe, Ponte Pietra and the riverside work well as a walk with stops. The approach towards Castel San Pietro climbs, so consider the route and your energy before continuing. Castelvecchio's bridge can be enjoyed as a public walk; the museum inside the castle has a separate entrance and ticket.
Leave space around rail journeys
Verona Porta Nuova sits outside the historic core. Add time for the walk or bus, especially with luggage. If you are continuing to Venice, select Santa Lucia for an island stay or Mestre for the mainland. Read the Verona–Milan route when comparing a regional train with a reserved fast service.

Where to Stay
The historic centre keeps sights and meals close. San Zeno offers a different neighbourhood base; Porta Nuova is practical for trains but involves a longer walk to many sights. Compare actual room prices rather than assuming one area is cheaper.
Getting Around
Walk between central sights and use a bus when it helps with the station journey. Compare the current Verona Card with the admissions and urban rides you will use, including any booking requirements.
Eating for Less
Choose an osteria after reading the menu and cover charge. Regional wine and small plates can make a relaxed stop, but check portion sizes before treating snacks as a full dinner.
Worth Paying For
The Arena if its Roman structure interests you, or an opera ticket for a performance. Check which experience you are buying; daytime admission does not include an evening show.
Skip / Save Your Money
A paid balcony visit if the story does not interest you. Spend the time around the Adige or Castelvecchio bridge instead, without treating the bridge walk as museum entry.
