Give the west and east different days
Use the official São Miguel visitor listings to place Sete Cidades, Furnas and the other stops before choosing accommodation or transport. The distances on the map do not include viewpoint stops, slower roads and time for a meal.
For the west, decide whether you want a viewpoint, time beside the lakes or a marked walk. These need different amounts of time and preparation. Check visibility before leaving and keep to open public routes; a famous photograph does not make an abandoned building an authorised viewpoint.
Make Furnas a full outing
Terra Nostra lists €17 for its standard adult garden and thermal facilities ticket. Its booking calendar opens a limited period ahead, so check the actual date rather than assuming every future day is already sold out.
Leave time for changing, the garden and a meal. A Furnas lunch and the thermal visit are separate purchases. If driving, give yourself a comfortable return rather than booking another distant attraction afterwards.
Check Lagoa do Fogo access for your date
The official shuttle operator gives the current service arrangements. Seasonal traffic restrictions can affect a rental-car plan. Do not use a previous year's dates or fare as proof that you can drive straight through on your visit.
Back in Ponta Delgada, an evening around the waterfront and central streets can be enough after a longer island day. The five-day São Miguel plan keeps the outings in separate directions and leaves room to change their order.
Where to Stay
Choose a central room for evenings on foot, then check parking if hiring a car. An airport-side or rural address may make one drive easier while adding another journey to dinner. Ask about late arrival and luggage storage before booking.
Getting Around

Terra Nostra in Furnas lists €17 for a standard adult ticket, including the garden, thermal pool and jacuzzis. It is a separate trip from Ponta Delgada, so include the travel and enough time to enjoy the garden.
