Decide between a city day and a mine day
Keep one day for the centre, a park stop and the cafés or museums that interest you. Cluj-Napoca is also a useful starting point for Salina Turda, but the mine is in Turda, not on an urban tram line. Choose the outward and return intercity journey before making it the main event of a day.
The mine's main entrance is on Aleea Durgăului. Check where your bus stops in Turda and how you will complete that last part of the journey. Do not assume that a ticket to the town is a ticket to the entrance.
Budget for the visit you want
Salina Turda's adult admission is 75 RON from Monday to Friday and 90 RON on weekends and public holidays. Boats and rides are separate purchases. You can choose the underground visit without turning it into a full set of paid activities.
The regular opening hours are 09:00-17:00, with the last admission at 16:20. That is a last-entry limit, not a useful target arrival for a relaxed visit. Leave time for the return journey and take a layer for the underground part of the day.
Choose local tickets by the journey
The CTP urban single costs 3.50 RON. A 60-minute ticket is 7 RON, while the 24-hour pass is 24 RON. These are different products: pick the one that fits your transfers rather than assuming every single ticket gives an hour across the network. SMS purchases can include an extra service cost.
The airport lists lines A1E, 5 and 8 and an indicative central-area journey of about 26 minutes. Read the specific line's route and timetable for your accommodation. A late arrival needs a plan for the final part of the trip too.
Find a practical base
A central room can make evenings easy, but it is worth comparing places on a useful bus or tram route. Check recent comments about noise and the exact dates of major events before deciding that an unusually high room price is normal for the city.
For travel west, read the Oradea route before booking. Rail works can change the type of journey available, and a replacement bus is not the same service as an independent intercity coach.
