Sibiu rewards a stay with time for both the Upper Town and the lower streets. The Council Tower is closed for restoration, so build your visit around the squares, lanes and a museum you can actually enter.

Walk between the two parts of town
Start with Piața Mare and Piața Mică, then leave time for the lanes and passages leading towards the Lower Town. This is a better way to understand the centre than moving between photo stops on a deadline. The route is walkable, but it is not all flat: steps and changes in level matter when choosing a hotel or travelling with a pushchair.
If you stay below the historic centre, check the actual approach to the room. A short distance on a map can hide a climb. If you arrive by train, save the accommodation's directions before leaving the station.
Plan around the tower closure
The Council Tower is closed to visitors. The city announced a 24-month restoration starting in January 2026. Include the surrounding squares in your walk, then choose another open interior if you want a museum visit.
For an indoor visit, choose the museum and exhibition first, then check its current hours and ticket coverage. Different buildings may have separate access. Leave enough time to enjoy one rather than collecting admissions simply to fill a rainy afternoon.
Use the local bus when it helps
Tursib's internal ticket costs 3.50 RON and lasts 60 minutes within the town or city covered. The internal day pass is 7 RON for a calendar day. Journeys crossing into other towns have different products, so a city ticket should not be assumed to cover an outing farther afield.
The operator offers tickets through SibiuBus and onboard contactless terminals as well as other outlets. Check the selected ticket before tapping. If you take only a single outward trip and return much later, compare those two tickets with the day pass.
Leave room for a slower stop
Put a meal between the Upper and Lower Town walks rather than crossing the centre again for a specific cheap restaurant. An apartment with a usable kitchen can suit a longer stay, but count groceries, cleaning charges and the full room price when comparing it with a hotel.
Sibiu works as a break between travel days. Keep the evening after arrival flexible, and use the onward Cluj-Napoca route to choose a departure before booking the next room.
