Ankara is a broad modern capital with strong museums, Anıtkabir, the old citadel area and excellent rail links. Ulus and Kızılay serve different parts of the visit, so a useful base depends on the sights and onward station.

Plan the visit around institutions and distance
Ankara's main sights are spread across a large city. The Museum of Anatolian Civilizations, citadel area and older streets can share one day. Anıtkabir needs its own time for security, the grounds and museum sections. Government districts and modern neighbourhoods belong in a separate route rather than a long cross-city walk.
Kızılay is practical for metro and bus connections. Ulus places the older centre closer but changes the evening atmosphere. Near Ankara Gar is useful for an early YHT only when the immediate area and route to the room suit you. Check weekend or official-event access before building a day around an institution.
Use the YHT station deliberately
High-speed trains arrive at Ankara Gar near the centre, making rail from Istanbul attractive. Choose the Istanbul station before buying and leave time for security and boarding. A flight may look shorter, but Esenboğa Airport is outside the centre and adds airport procedures and a road transfer.
Use the airport's current EGO information for the municipal connection. Confirm the stop closest to the accommodation. Ankara is less forgiving of an assumed short walk than compact historic cities.
Add major museums, airport travel and YHT tickets separately to the ordinary city allowance.

Getting Around
Use metro and Ankaray for the main urban corridors, then check a city bus or taxi for gaps. The YHT station, coach terminal and airport are separate departures.
