Choose a base after deciding how you will move
Göreme is convenient for many tours, walks and transfers, but a cave room on a steep lane can be awkward with luggage. Other towns may be quieter or closer to a particular sight while requiring more taxis. Ask for the exact address, access by vehicle, heating or cooling and the airport-transfer pickup point before booking.
Use the first afternoon for orientation and a short permitted walk. Give a full day to one valley route or a well-planned group of nearby places. An underground city, open-air museum and long valley walk should not be treated as one quick loop.
Keep the balloon decision independent
A balloon flight is weather-dependent and should be booked with a licensed operator. Confirm who actually operates the flight, cancellation terms, pickup and what happens when conditions prevent flying. If the flight matters greatly, place it early in the stay so a later morning may be possible. A viewpoint is not guaranteed to reproduce a promotional photograph, and access around launch areas can be restricted.
Plan both airport transfers before buying the flight
Nevşehir Kapadokya and Kayseri airports serve the region. The useful option depends on the flight and a confirmed road transfer to the actual accommodation. Do not choose by airfare alone. An overnight coach can avoid an airport but creates an early arrival and a poor night for some travellers.

Getting Around
Walk only routes that suit the weather, daylight and footwear. Use a current local bus, licensed transfer or clearly described tour for underground cities and distant valleys. Pre-arrange airport transport rather than expecting a city shuttle at every flight.

An underground city, the open-air museum or a well-run balloon flight can each justify time and money. Choose one based on mobility, weather and interest rather than stacking all three into one rushed day.

A safe valley walk and a permitted sunrise viewpoint can be rewarding without a balloon flight, but access and weather still need checking.
