Central station is not Queen Street
Many Edinburgh services arrive at Glasgow Queen Street. Other trains use Glasgow Central, while coaches use Buchanan Bus Station. They are separate buildings. Leave room for the walk or local journey if you are connecting, particularly with bags or limited mobility.
The West End can be a pleasant base for several days around Kelvingrove and nearby streets. A central room may suit an early intercity train better. Map the final walk from the station and ask about evening noise before booking.
Use the Subway for a specific journey
SPT's contactless guide lists adult single travel at £1.80, a £3.40 daily cap and a £15.50 Monday-to-Sunday cap. Touch the same card or device at entry and exit. One card is for one traveller; a phone and its linked physical card do not form one shared cap.
The Subway does not cover every destination or include ordinary bus journeys. Plan the last walk to the museum or venue rather than choosing a stop just because its name sounds nearby.
Give Kelvingrove time
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum has free general entry. Choose a part of the collection that interests you, then leave room for the park or a meal afterwards. Exhibitions, events and conservation work can affect what is available; do not make the whole visit depend on one artwork without checking its display.
A wet afternoon can work well here, but carrying a large suitcase around a museum is less enjoyable. Settle luggage storage first if you are between trains.
Airport and evening travel
Glasgow Airport's Express 500 runs towards the city and Buchanan Bus Station. It is a separate ticket from Subway travel. Check the current stop notices: city-centre roadworks can move the useful drop-off from the one shown in an older guide.
Prestwick Airport needs a different journey. Confirm the airport name and code on both flight directions before booking the room or transfer.
