Choose the train before choosing the station
There are two main direct rail choices, with different Amsterdam departure stations. Eurostar uses Amsterdam Centraal and takes about 1 hour 52 minutes to Brussels Midi/Zuid. Eurocity Direct uses Amsterdam Zuid and takes about 2 hours 8 minutes. Compare the full trip from your accommodation, as the faster train on paper may leave from the less convenient station.
Bruxelles-Midi and Brussel-Zuid are French and Dutch names for the same Brussels station. Neither is Brussels Central. Keep time for the onward local journey if your hotel is nearer Grand Place or another neighbourhood.
Eurostar and Eurocity Direct tickets work differently
Eurostar tickets are tied to a booked service and include a seat. Follow the arrival, luggage and boarding instructions for this continental journey. London boarding advice is not automatically the right advice for a train between Amsterdam and Brussels.
Eurocity Direct does not offer reserved seats. Its Saver fare is tied to the selected train, while Flex allows another eligible service on the chosen day. Read the conditions attached to the fare you buy. The old advice that every ticket is fully flexible is no longer accurate.
For either service, book an international ticket. Ordinary domestic OVpay check-in is not a substitute for a ticket to Belgium. Use the gate instructions on the ticket to avoid starting a separate domestic bank-card journey by mistake.

A coach is another option if its longer journey fits your plans. Read the exact stops, luggage allowance and cancellation terms. Amsterdam Sloterdijk and Brussels North are outside the central sightseeing areas most visitors have in mind, so include the final local journeys. Road travel also needs room for traffic delays.
