Budget half a day for the move

A direct ICE makes Berlin to Frankfurt a practical city-to-city journey. Plan about 4 to 4½ hours on a suitable service, with some faster examples, then add local travel and check-in. DB's Berlin to Frankfurt page lets you compare dates, changes and conditions.

Choose a morning train if you want a relaxed Frankfurt afternoon. Buy food before boarding if that suits your budget, and avoid making a tight restaurant or museum booking immediately after arrival.

Frankfurt city and Frankfurt Airport are different destinations

For the city, use Frankfurt (Main) Hbf. For a flight, search the airport station appropriate to the onward connection. Do not select Frankfurt simply because the name appears first in the planner: Frankfurt am Main and Frankfurt (Oder) are different cities.

If connecting to an international flight, follow the airline's airport arrival guidance and leave additional room for railway delays. A cheap train tied to one departure can be a poor fit after an inbound flight with an uncertain landing or baggage time.

Compare the whole ticket

A restrictive saver fare can suit a settled plan. A flexible fare may be more useful when timing can change. Read the ticket terms, whether a seat reservation is included, and the local transport conditions. The fare estimates on this page are not a promise that the cheapest ticket is available now.

Give yourself time to reach the platform and find the right coach. Large bags need sensible storage; keep important documents and medicines with you.

An easy arrival

Leave bags at your accommodation, then start with the river or Römerberg if there is time. A museum can wait until the next morning. The Frankfurt guide explains the neighbourhood choices and airport stations. For a longer route, compare Frankfurt to Heidelberg or Frankfurt to Cologne.
