Compare duration as well as departure time
Other direct services can call at more stations and take longer. Check the arrival time before choosing the next departure shown. A restrictive discounted ticket can tie you to the selected train.
Continue to the actual endpoint
Some services continue towards Zurich Airport. Search your final destination rather than automatically buying a separate HB-to-airport ticket. For a city stay, allow time to find the correct tram stop outside the large main station.
Tickets and local travel
Use the operator information and SBB journey planner to choose the actual departure. Read the fare conditions: an ordinary ticket and a train-specific Supersaver ticket have different flexibility. Only select a discount if you hold the required card.
The Bern guide and Zurich guide explain the local arrival and accommodation choices.
