Walk out through the old town
Start near the station and follow the streets towards Zytglogge and the cathedral area. The arcades give useful shelter in showers, though you will still be outside between sections. Keep looking into the side streets rather than following only the main line of shops.
Continue towards the Bear Park and the river if you have time. The walk down is easy to underestimate: save some energy for climbing back, or use the local transport that suits your return route.
Use the Bern Ticket where it helps
The Bern Ticket comes with a qualifying overnight stay. It covers local zones 100 and 101, with the Gurten and Marzili funiculars among its inclusions. An accommodation booking confirmation serves for the arrival journey to the property under the published rules.
That can make a room on a convenient tram line practical. It does not establish that a stay in every surrounding town includes the same card. Ask the host before using the benefit in your comparison.
Choose the interior visit you want
Watching the clock tower from the street and going inside on a guided visit are separate experiences. If you want the mechanism and historical explanation, reserve the suitable tour. If you mainly want a walk through Bern, there is no need to buy a ticket simply because you pass the tower.
The Einstein Museum is an exhibition within the Bern Historical Museum. The Einstein House is the former apartment on Kramgasse. Choose by subject and available time rather than expecting them to be the same attraction.
Enjoy the river without making swimming the plan
The Aare paths and viewpoints work well as part of an ordinary city walk. Swimming in a flowing river demands different judgement from using a pool. Check the city's current advice, conditions and entry and exit points; choose a supervised bathing facility if that is a better fit for your ability.
For a less weather-dependent afternoon, keep a museum option. A Gurten outing can provide a change of scene when conditions suit, but it need not displace the town walk on a short visit.
Keep moving days light
Bern works between Interlaken and Zurich. A half-day in the centre is more comfortable when you leave luggage at your stay or suitable station storage, rather than carrying it over the cobbles and slopes.
