Bus180 towards Esbjerg, then regional train to Ribe. Allow roughly 2½–3½h depending on connections and diversions. Quote the full journey; the published airport–Esbjerg fare does not include Ribe. Tickets and times |
Go via Esbjerg for a straightforward change
Search from Billund Centret or your actual nearby stop to Ribe Station. Bus 180 links the Billund area with Esbjerg via Grindsted. Continue from Esbjerg by regional train towards Ribe. Starting at Billund Airport gives a different first stop and can change the fare.
Treat this as a travel morning
Allow roughly 2½–3½ hours overall, depending on the bus and train connection. The Esbjerg–Ribe train itself is around 35–40 minutes on normal services. The total is a planning allowance, not a checked departure for every day. Use Rejseplanen for current bus diversions, rail works and the transfer time.
Buy the journey you will actually take
The published airport–Esbjerg bus fare is DKK84 for an adult, but that is not a complete Billund–Ribe ticket. Price the exact start and both sections. On Sydtrafik buses, use an accepted ticket app or check cash payment rules before boarding; do not assume every bus accepts a bank card.
Arrive with time for the old centre
Choose Ribe Station for the centre, rather than Ribe Nørremark. Leave bags and start with the cathedral square or a short town walk. Save a tidal excursion for another block of time, with its own transport and guide arrangements. The regional railway now operates as DSB Vores Tog, following the September 2026 transfer from GoCollective.
Plan the arrival
The Billund guide and Ribe guide explain the local journeys, places to stay and visits. Add the main travel ticket separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above is a straight-line comparison between the city centres; your train, road or flight route can be longer.
