Copenhagen to Odense: travel options
Approximate direct distance: 141 km • Travel distance depends on the route and transport you choose.
Choosing your journey
A fast direct train takes roughly 1 hour 20 minutes. Odense makes an easy stop on the way west, but book a museum slot and onward train with enough time between them.

Travel from the main station to central Odense
DSB connects København H with Odense Station on Funen. Faster direct journeys take about 1 hour 20 minutes. Choose an actual departure rather than assuming every train has that timing.
Book a visit that fits the train
H.C. Andersen’s House has timed entry. Allow for leaving your bags and walking from the station before the slot. If you plan to continue to Aarhus that evening, leave a comfortable gap after the museum. One night in Odense makes room for the old streets and a riverside walk.
Compare Orange with a flexible fare
Advertised Orange tickets start at DKK69, but lower fares have limited availability and bind you to the booked departure. Add a seat reservation only if you need one on an eligible service. The Odense Nu local ticket covers city buses and light rail, not this intercity journey.
Continue west without returning to Copenhagen
The Odense–Aarhus connection is a separate onward journey. Price the whole sequence if you are building a longer trip, including any night in Odense. Do not count the local spending example as a train ticket.
Plan the arrival
The Copenhagen guide and Odense guide explain the local journeys, places to stay and visits. Add the main travel ticket separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above is a straight-line comparison between the city centres; your train, road or flight route can be longer.
