Give the city three relaxed days

Start with the old centre and Nyhavn, keeping your first afternoon flexible if you have just arrived. On another day, put Rosenborg and the King's Garden together, then take time over lunch near Nørreport. Keep a third day for a neighbourhood and the harbour, or use it for one trip beyond the city.

Roskilde suits a cathedral and Viking-ship day. Helsingør suits Kronborg and the seafront. Trying to fit both into one day leaves little time in either place.

Choose the right transport ticket

The 24-hour City Pass Small costs DKK100 for an adult and includes the airport in zones 1–4. It is useful on a day with several journeys. For a mainly walking day, compare the few single tickets you actually need instead of buying a pass automatically.

City Pass Large covers a wider area, including Roskilde and Helsingør, and starts at DKK200 for 24 hours. Neither product is a museum pass. Set the start time carefully and check the coverage shown before paying.

The old physical Rejsekort has closed. Visitors can still buy tickets at station machines or in Rejsebillet; the newer check-in apps are another option. With a check-in product, remember to finish the journey as instructed. With a normal ticket, have it ready before boarding.

Book one museum, then leave room around it

At Rosenborg, book an entry time and leave suitcases at your accommodation. The castle has strict bag limits and stairs. If you use Copenhagen Card, follow Rosenborg's instructions for collecting an entry slot at the ticket desk.

The Round Tower sells normal admission at the entrance. Adults pay DKK60; visitors aged 0–17 enter free. It is not included in Copenhagen Card. The long ramp ends in stairs, so it is not a step-free alternative to a tower climb. Do not plan around a telescope session without checking the observatory's restoration notice.

Enjoy the harbour on its own terms

Walking along the water is worthwhile even when you do not swim or book a boat. If you do want a dip, use a designated bathing place and read the city's water-quality information and signs on the day. Swimming elsewhere in the working harbour is not allowed.

A bike is useful if you are comfortable with busy cycle lanes. It is optional for this plan. Stop clear of the lane before checking a map, and compare the rental period, deposit and return location before hiring one.

Make the budget fit your day

Use the spending cards as adjustable examples. Replace the stay allowance with your actual bed or room price, and add the visits you select. On a walking day you may spend less on local transport and more on lunch; a castle day or a trip out of town needs a different allowance.
