Choosing your journey
Direct trains make Cēsis a useful onward stop or a full day out. Depending on the service, allow roughly 105–120 minutes on board and time to walk into the Old Town.

Choose a service that continues beyond Sigulda
Riga departures on the northeastern line do not all reach Cēsis. Check the named destination and full stop list in Vivi. International and ordinary regional trains can have different ticket arrangements; use the selected departure before making a castle reservation.
Plan the castle before the return train
Ticket sales at Cēsis Castle finish an hour before closing. Leave enough time for the visit, a meal and a walk back to the station. A day trip can work, but an overnight stay gives more freedom if you also want a Gauja outing.
Keep a countryside stay separate
A train to Cēsis does not deliver you to every national-park guesthouse or trailhead. Arrange the final journey and check evening food options before booking a room outside town.
Buy for the full journey
Use a ticket valid to Cēsis and check luggage or bicycle conditions. Do not apply a Riga city ticket or a Sigulda-only rail fare to this longer journey.
