Choosing your journey
A direct coach is a practical way to travel between the two centres. Allow roughly four and a half hours on board, then time to reach your room in Riga.

Use the coach station on your ticket
Most city-to-city bookings use Tallinn Bussijaam and Riga International Coach Terminal. Tallinn’s coach station is separate from Balti jaam railway station and the ferry terminals. Plan the local journey before choosing a departure, especially after a ferry arrival.
Compare the actual departure
Lux Express and Ecolines sell this route. The Ecolines route page describes about 4h30; individual services and traffic can differ. Compare the complete fare, seat choice, luggage and change terms for the same date. A promotion seen on another day is not a fare to build your trip around.
Keep arrival plans loose
Carry food and water if you want a choice during the journey. Check the facilities on the selected coach rather than assuming every vehicle is identical. In Riga, the coach terminal is beside the Central Market, with the Old Town nearby. Leave time to collect bags and find the correct walking route.
If you prefer rail
Check Elron’s current Tallinn–Tartu–Riga journey planner and service notices. Rail is an available alternative, but engineering work, service days and any connection determine whether it suits your date. Compare its full station-to-station time with the coach before buying a separate onward ticket.
Plan the arrival
Continue with the Riga guide when choosing a base and local visits. Add this journey separately to your daily spending plan. The distance above compares the city centres in a straight line; the route you travel can be longer.
