Choosing your journey
Take the train for an easy day trip, but leave time for the walk at the other end. Trakai station is about 3 km from the island castle, so the short train ride is only part of the outing.

Train into Trakai
LTG Link runs direct trains from Vilnius railway station to Trakai. The annual table shows about 32–34 minutes outbound. Use the dated LTG planner for the actual service, including temporary works; a published annual departure is not a guarantee for every date.
The castle is beyond the station
Allow roughly 40–50 minutes to walk the approximately 3 km from the railway station to the island castle, longer if you stop by the lakes. The bus station is closer, but still about 2.3 km away. With limited mobility or heavy rain, plan a local transfer before leaving Vilnius rather than discovering the distance on arrival.
Buy the journey you need
Check the outward and return departure together, then buy the fare for your chosen passenger and class. Keep train travel separate from castle admission and any boat trip. If you choose a coach instead, compare the departure station and the walk at both ends.
Leave time for the visit
Island Castle admission is €14 for a standard adult in April–September and €12 in October–March. Check the museum opening day before setting out. Give yourself time for the interior, lunch and the walk back, then aim to reach the station with a margin. Do not make the final return train your only workable option.
