Put the Old Town into a walkable day

Start around Cathedral Square, continue through the Old Town, and leave room for a courtyard or church that catches your eye. You do not need to turn every stop into a paid visit. Cross to Užupis when you want a different pace, then follow the Vilnia river before returning for dinner. This gives the day a shape without tying it to a long list of opening times.

On a second day, choose a museum and a different neighbourhood rather than repeating the same central streets. If you add Trakai, give it its own day. A quick train ride does not mean the castle is beside the station.

Choose tickets around your actual journeys

JUDU lists the city ticket options. Standard adult tickets cost €1 for 30 minutes or €1.25 for 60 minutes; a 24-hour ticket costs €7.50. Transfers are allowed within the ticket's validity. Activate your ticket, and leave enough time for the whole journey when choosing its duration.

For a walking day, buy only the rides you need. A pass becomes a convenience choice when you expect to use transport repeatedly, not simply because you are staying for a full day. Do not assume that a concession advertised for local students applies to every visitor.

Get from the airport to the right end of town

The airport train runs to Vilnius railway station in up to eight minutes and has a published €0.90 fare. That is the train journey, not terminal-to-hotel time. Allow for the walk to the platform, waiting and your onward trip. Check the departure list against your flight; the train is not a round-the-clock shuttle.

If a city bus puts you closer to your accommodation, compare that route before buying a train ticket. For a late arrival, settle on a backup and check the quoted taxi price before leaving the terminal.

Pay for the tower only if you want the museum

At Gediminas Hill, decide separately about the outdoor views, the museum and the ride uphill. Gediminas Castle Tower has an €8 standard adult ticket. The funicular is €3 return or €2 one way. The tower has steps and is not a step-free museum visit, even when you use the funicular to reach the hill.

Leave space in the budget

The spending plans below are amounts you can adjust, not live hotel offers. Replace the accommodation amount with your booking total, including any tax. Keep intercity tickets and airport journeys separate so they do not disappear inside a small local-transport allowance.

For meals, read the menu before sitting down and compare the complete order. A lunch deal you can reach on foot may be better value than a cheaper meal that requires two extra rides. On a wet afternoon, move your chosen museum earlier and leave the river walk for a break in the rain.
