The reviewed direct IC1 from Zurich HB to Genève takes about three hours via Bern. Search Genève-Aéroport separately if that is your final destination and check whether the selected train continues there. Approved Geneva accommodation can issue a personal digital transport card for zone 10 during your stay. That local benefit does not pay for the intercity journey from Zurich. |

The journey
Use a direct service where available and keep this cross-country journey as the main activity of the moving day. Allow roughly 2¾–3¼ hours on a suitable connection for the main connection, plus the journeys at each end. This is a planning range; use the timetable for your travel date.
Departure: Zurich HB. Arrival: Geneve Cornavin.
Read the route instead of assuming the scenery
Different Swiss connections follow different lines. The current direct IC1 route runs through Bern; older advice promising the same Lake Neuchatel views on every direct train is misleading. Check changes on the selected departure.
City and airport are different arrivals
Cornavin serves central Geneva. If you need the airport, search Geneve-Aeroport and see whether your train continues there. A digital guest card from eligible Geneva accommodation may cover local travel once valid, but it does not cover the train from Zurich.
Tickets and local travel
Use the operator information and SBB journey planner to choose the actual departure. Read the fare conditions: an ordinary ticket and a train-specific Supersaver ticket have different flexibility. Only select a discount if you hold the required card.
The Zurich guide and Geneva guide explain the local arrival and accommodation choices.
