Core Planning

Arrange airport assistance before you fly

Describe the journey you need help with, not just a label for your disability. Walking through a terminal, using stairs and transferring to a seat are separate needs.

Tell the airline early

For travel covered by EU rules, contact the airline, seller or tour operator at least 48 hours before the trip. Explain your needs and any mobility equipment. If you give less notice, reasonable efforts must still be made to help, but arranging the details early makes the journey easier to plan.

Confirm the whole journey

  • Ask where and when to report at the departure airport.
  • Explain whether you can use stairs or need help transferring to the aircraft seat.
  • Check the arrangements at every connection and the arrival airport.
  • Ask where your own wheelchair or other equipment will be returned.
  • Save the assistance confirmation and a contact number.

Plan personal support separately

Airport assistance does not mean help with eating or taking medicine during the flight. If you need personal support, discuss the arrangements before booking and plan an appropriate companion where needed.

If the arrangement breaks down

Tell the airport or airline which help was booked and ask for the assistance team. Keep the confirmation and a record of what happened. The official guidance below explains complaint and escalation routes.
