Andorra entry: plan your return to France or Spain

Check your return to France or Spain before travelling into Andorra. The principality is outside Schengen, and a normal road visit uses one of those neighbouring countries to arrive and leave. Your documents need to cover that whole journey.

If your passport requires a Schengen visa

The Andorran government's entry guidance says Andorra does not issue a separate visitor visa. It directs travellers who need a Schengen visa to arrange double-entry or multiple-entry permission, depending on the number of returns from Andorra.

Check with the relevant French or Spanish consulate before booking if your permission is single-entry or you are unsure whether it covers the trip. A coach ticket does not establish the right to re-enter. Carry the documents required for your nationality and immigration status, and check children's documents and any consent requirements as well.

If you travel under visa-free, residence or other arrangements, use the rules that apply to those circumstances. Do not copy an answer written for a different passport.

A side trip does not create a new allowance

For a longer European stay, work out your Schengen position before adding Andorra. A short visit does not restart the rolling allowance. If you intend to exclude time spent there, ask the responsible French or Spanish authority how departure, stay and return should be evidenced.

Give the road journey a margin

For Barcelona, the coach's published journey time is only part of a flight connection. You also need time to reach the correct stop, load luggage and handle any traffic or border delay. Returning to Barcelona the evening before an important morning flight can make the departure much easier.

For Toulouse, match the ticket to the city or airport stop. Andbus lists separate departure times for Matabiau and the airport. Do not arrive at one expecting a ticketed pickup from the other.

Purchases are a separate check

Document permission and customs allowances answer different questions. Keep receipts for shopping and use the rules for the country you are entering. France and Spain publish Andorra-specific allowances; alcohol, tobacco, food and general goods do not all use one shared limit.

Read the shopping and customs guide before buying. If a declaration is required, allow for it in the journey. Carrying purchases on a local or international bus does not remove the traveller's responsibility.

Save your coach ticket and hotel address offline as well. Andorra's inclusion in a mobile plan is separate from EU or Schengen travel permission, so check your provider before using data after the border.
