The Crucial Distinction: Andorra is NOT in the EU

While Andorra uses the Euro as its official currency and maintains open borders, it is NOT a member of the European Union or the Schengen Area.

What This Means at the Border

Physical customs checkpoints exist at both international border crossings:

  • Southern Border (Spain): La Farga de Moles checkpoint.
  • Northern Border (France): Pas de la Case checkpoint.

Strict Duty-Free Allowances (Per Person Aged 17+)

French and Spanish customs officers actively inspect luggage on departing buses and vehicles:

  • Tobacco: Maximum 300 cigarettes (or 150 cigarillos, or 75 cigars).
  • Spirits (Over 22% ABV): Maximum 1.5 liters.
  • Wine / Beer: Up to 5 liters of table wine and 16 liters of beer.
  • General Commercial Goods: Maximum total value of €900 per adult (€450 for minors under 15).

Exceeding these limits results in immediate confiscation of goods and heavy financial fines.
