Unlimited Regional Travel Across Germany

Germany’s nationwide monthly transit pass (the Deutschlandticket, priced at €58/month in 2026) offers unlimited travel on all local and regional transit in Germany: U-Bahn, S-Bahn, city buses, trams, ferries, and Regional-Express (RE / RB) trains.

Can International Tourists Buy It?

Yes. The ticket is not restricted to German citizens. Any foreign traveler can purchase the digital ticket on their smartphone.

The Two Critical Rules

  1. It is NOT Valid on High-Speed Trains: The Deutschlandticket covers local and regional transport only. It is completely invalid on long-distance ICE, IC, and EC trains. If you board an ICE train with a Deutschlandticket, you will be fined.
  2. It Is a Rolling Monthly Subscription: The ticket is sold as a recurring digital subscription that automatically renews. You must cancel the subscription before the 10th day of the current month to avoid being billed for the subsequent month. Use foreigner-friendly apps like Bremen FahrPlaner or HVV Switch that accept international credit cards without requiring a German bank account.
