Lake Bled or Lake Bohinj for your stay
Choose a Slovenian lake base around the walks, transport and atmosphere you want, with clear distinctions between Bohinj's villages and the lakeshore.
Bled suits a short stay with a compact concentration of familiar sights around the lake. Bohinj suits visitors who want more time walking, spending time by the water and exploring the surrounding valley. Bohinj can still be busy in summer, and it is not automatically the cheaper choice.
The address matters at Bohinj
Bohinj describes a wider area, not a single lakeside town. Ribčev Laz sits at the eastern end of the lake. Stara Fužina is a nearby village with its own accommodation and walking connections. Ukanc lies towards the western end. Bohinjska Bistrica is farther down the valley and should not be booked on the assumption that the lake is outside the door.

Bled's lakeside area is easier to understand at a glance, but rooms above the shore or away from the centre can still involve hills or longer walks. The official Bled overview helps identify the main sights.
Two different ways to spend three nights
At Bled, use a full day for the lakeshore and one chosen paid visit, such as the castle or an island outing. Leave time to enjoy the view without turning the entire day into a sequence of tickets.
At Bohinj, plan one lower-level walk and another day around the lake or a suitable mountain outing. Do not assume a cable-car ride makes every route above it easy. Check the weather, elevation and return transport.
The Bohinj panoramic boat connects Ribčev Laz and Ukanc when operating. Its schedule can shape a one-way walk, but a seasonal boat should not be your unverified last option for getting back.
What changes the cost
Compare rooms for the same dates, then add buses, parking where applicable and the activities you want. A cheaper valley room can lose its advantage if it requires repeated taxi journeys. Check designated swimming areas and local restrictions rather than assuming every stretch of shore is suitable for entering the water.
