Seville or Granada: choose a base or visit both

Choose Granada when the Alhambra is the central reason for your trip and you can book the visit you want. Choose Seville when you would rather build a longer city stay around several monuments, neighbourhood walks and evenings by the river. Visiting both is worthwhile when the nights and the journey leave enough time for each.

Start with the visit you would regret missing

In Granada, check Alhambra General before making restrictive hotel bookings. The official price is €22.27 and the product includes the Nasrid Palaces, Partal, Alcazaba and Generalife. A ticket for other spaces is not equivalent if the palaces are your priority.

The official visiting instructions make the palace-entry time distinct from the monument's opening hours. Bring the required original identity document and leave time for the approach and movement inside the grounds. Do not schedule a train arrival as if it were arrival at the palace door.

Seville offers a different pattern. The Alcázar lists general entry at €15.50, with the upper royal rooms separate. The cathedral has its own admission arrangements. Put one major visit first, then decide whether a second fits without sacrificing the gardens, a meal or a slower walk.

Choose nights, not just a number of attractions

For a very short break, keep one base. Two different hotels mean two arrivals, bag handling and a journey between the cities, even when the main train looks short.

Three Granada nights can give you an Alhambra day and another day for the city without placing the main visit beside departure. Four Seville nights can give the monuments, river and neighbourhoods separate stretches of time. These are suggested paces, not minimum stays or promises about what everyone can fit.

With seven nights, four in Seville and three in Granada is one workable two-base outline. Do not confuse that with the seven-day Madrid itinerary: that plan has six nights spread across four cities, including just one in Granada.

For a wider southern trip, the ten-day Andalusia plan uses three Seville nights and two Granada nights, with Córdoba and Málaga between its endpoints. Choose it for those extra places, not because more stops automatically make a better trip.

Consider the address and the walking

Granada's Albaicín involves slopes and uneven streets. A room with an appealing view can have an awkward final approach with bags. Ask how to reach the actual door and whether steps are involved. The Granada guide helps separate the lower-centre base from an uphill stay.

In Seville, compare the room with the walks and transport you expect to use. Keep long outdoor stretches away from uncomfortable heat and confirm cooling in the room when it matters. Neither city should be planned as an uninterrupted day of exposed sightseeing.

Check equivalent room types, the full stay price and cancellation rules. Add the exact attraction products and transport tickets you want. Neither a reputation for cheaper tapas nor a lower headline room rate establishes the cheaper trip.

Granada's tapa-with-a-drink tradition is worth enjoying, but ask how the bar works; it is not a guaranteed dinner included with every drink. In either city, order from the menu and choose meals that fit your appetite rather than treating a food custom as a fixed budget formula.

If you visit both, protect the moving day

Finish the Seville main visits before the move, then leave the first Granada afternoon flexible. Place the Alhambra on a settled day where possible. If the only workable booking would turn the trip into a rush, keep one city now and leave the other for another journey.
