Two Completely Different Experiences

Slovenia’s alpine lakes shift dramatic personalities throughout the calendar.

July & August: The Swimming & Outdoor Sports Season

  • Water Temperatures: Lake Bled reaches a pleasant 23°C (73°F) due to thermal springs feeding the lake bed, making it ideal for open-water swimming. Lake Bohinj is cooler (roughly 19°C to 21°C) and perfect for paddleboarding and kayaking.
  • The Trade-Off: Heavy traffic congestion on the single two-lane road into Bled and crowded island boats.

October: The Golden Autumn Photographers’ Season

  • Atmosphere: Deep golden and crimson beech foliage surrounds the lake, morning mist curls off the water at dawn, and daytime temperatures are crisp and clear (14°C to 18°C).
  • The Trade-Off: Water is too cold for swimming, but hiking trails and viewpoints are serene and uncrowded.
