A London budget you can build around your own trip
Plan room costs, free visits and local transport, with a clear example budget and current TfL fare conditions.
Begin with the room you would actually book. A cheaper address can lose its advantage if it adds long journeys, extra fares or a late-night taxi. Compare the same dates, room type and cancellation terms before deciding which area costs less overall.
Separate the room from personal spending
Here is a chosen example in pounds, not a survey of London prices. Replace the room and food amounts with your own bookings and choices.

Paid visits, airport journeys and travel to other cities are additional. If the room quote includes breakfast, adjust the meals line instead of counting the same meal twice. Sharing divides the room cost, not each person’s food or transport.
Use the cap that fits your journeys
TfL’s adult fare table lists £8.90 for the ordinary zones 1–2 daily pay-as-you-go cap and £10.50 for zones 1–3. Use the same eligible card or device throughout the day and follow the required touches. Switching between a physical bank card and its phone wallet can split your travel record.
For London buses and trams, the adult Hopper fare is £1.75 and the daily cap is £5.25 until 1 November 2026, when they rise to £1.85 and £5.55. The Hopper allows eligible further bus and tram rides within an hour of the first touch. A Tube trip is not included in that bus fare.
Airport travel can use different prices and conditions. Check the airport guide separately instead of assuming a central-zone cap covers the whole arrival.
Choose one main part of London each day
The British Museum and nearby Bloomsbury streets work well together. General museum entry is free, with a booked slot useful on busy dates and paid exhibitions separate. Large luggage is not allowed, so drop your bags first.
Another day can follow the Thames from Westminster towards the South Bank. If the Tower of London is your priority, reserve it and shorten the walk. The £37 standard adult ticket excludes the optional donation; it is a separate cost from walking along the river.
Leave space for the meal you want to sit down for. A simple lunch or groceries can balance it, but check whether your room really has a usable kitchen before buying food that needs cooking. The London city guide brings the local journeys and visit choices together.
