A day in Malbun: village visit, chairlift or mountain walk

Malbun sits in the mountains above Vaduz and Triesenberg. The main choice is between a short village visit and a full day on the trails. Both can work, but they need different preparation.
Choose a short visit or a hiking day
A short visit suits a few hours around the village and the lift base. A hiking day needs proper walking time, suitable shoes and a check on route conditions. These are different plans, so decide before you board the bus.
Getting to Malbun
Line 21 connects Vaduz, Triesenberg and Malbun. Through journeys take about 30 minutes from Vaduz Post to Malbun Zentrum as a planning figure. Some line 21 departures stop at Triesenberg Guferwald, so check that your bus continues to Malbun rather than assuming any number 21 goes all the way. Use approximate times for planning and the dated timetable for your actual travel.
The Sareis chairlift
Only the Sareis chairlift runs in summer. For summer 2026 the adult full-price fare is CHF 11 one way and CHF 17 return, for the season 13 June to 18 October 2026. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 08:30 to 17:00 and weekends or public holidays 08:00 to 17:00. Wind or poor weather can stop the lift, so check its status before going. Get off at Malbun Zentrum for the Sareis base. A return ride lets you come down without taking a long walking route; any guided outing is a separate booking.
The Fürstin-Gina-Weg circuit
The full Fürstin-Gina-Weg circuit from Malbun is 11.9 km with about 892 m of ascent and descent, reaching Augstenberg at 2,359 m, and it is described as roughly five hours of walking. It runs via Pfälzerhütte and returns by Alp Gritsch and the Vaduzer Täli. That time excludes breaks and transport, so the circuit is a real commitment rather than a casual stroll. Taking a lift does not turn the exposed route into an easy default walk.
Weather and your return
Check weather and lift status before setting out, and confirm food and kitchen arrangements with your host or carry lunch for a mountain day. Plan the last bus back so the return does not rush you.
